Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis as long as space is available. Acceptances will begin to be sent in mid-August.

ALTAR EXHIBITION AND CONTEST APPLICATION

Dia de los Muertos at Hemisfair, returns for our 112h Annual celebration on October 26 & 27, 2024, featuring altars produced by community members and local organizations, as well as live music, workshops, processions, food and an art market.  Día de los Muertos at Hemisfair was created to give space to the community to celebrate and honor loved ones who have passed. The altars are created with respect and reverence by local families, school groups, community members and organizations. 

Thank you for taking the time to apply to build an altar at the 2024 Día de los Muertos at Hemisfair. Altar builders will set up their altars on October 25, 2024 (time to be individually scheduled) and will leave their altars up for the duration of the festival on October 26 & 27, 2024. The Community Altar Exhibit is central to Muertos Fest and is open to all (while space lasts). 

We do ask for a $30 deposit but will return this fee upon cleanup of your space. If you have any difficulty making this payment for any reason, please reach out to [email protected].

We encourage you to apply early for the best chance at securing your space. All altar applications are confidentially reviewed and selected. Applications will be selected on a rolling basis and will remain open until all spaces are filled. Last year, we reached capacity by September 1st. If space remains, altar applications will remain open until September 15, 2024. 

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
1st place: $2,000 

2nd place: $1,000

Fan favorite (determined through voting): $500

Best School: $500
