CALL FOR ENTRANTS: MUERTOS FEST PROCESSION

Dia de los Muertos at Hemisfair, returns for our 11th Annual celebration on October 28 & 29, 2023, featuring altars produced by community members and local organizations, live music, and a public procession on both Saturday and Sunday. Each year, our event grows and as our space at Hemisfair has grown, so will our public Procession.

The Procession will feature community groups, dancers, puppets, mobile altars, performance groups, people-powered floats, schools and other groups paying tribute to those we have lost. Thousands of spectators both on site at Hemisfair and through a special broadcast on KSAT-12 will have the opportunity view this year’s Procession.

This is the first time we will open the procession to the public. We have a limited number of spaces available for non-profits, schools, families, friends, performance groups, etc., to participate directly, by walking in the procession.

The Muertos Fest Procession is an opportunity for community members to honor their loved ones who have passed through participation in the procession.

We encourage you to apply early for the best chance at securing your spot. We ask that every submission be centered around paying tribute to a person or group of people who have passed on. We are open to a variety of entrants and encourage innovative forms of expression -- hand-carried or wheeled altars, people-powered alebrijes or skeleton puppets, school or organizational groups, performance groups, etc. Since the procession travels throughout the walkways of Hemisfair, no motorized vehicles will be allowed.

All accepted entries will be expected to participate in both processions:

  • October 28, 2023, at 7pm
  • October 29, 2023, at 3pm

Please note: This Procession is not an opportunity for advertising or promotion and entries should not be focused on brands but rather on people.

Please read the application for full details.
